MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has successfully repatriated 489 Filipinos from Abu Dhabi as part of its ongoing efforts to bring home overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and other stranded nationals in the Middle East.
The latest arrival marks another step in the government’s intensified repatriation program aimed at ensuring the safe return of Filipinos facing difficulties abroad.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said returning OFWs are being provided with comprehensive assistance upon arrival, including food, temporary shelter, medical services, transportation support, and financial aid.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure their safe return and provide the necessary assistance,” a DMW spokesperson said.
Officials noted that the use of chartered flights has significantly sped up the repatriation process while also reducing costs, with turnaround time now averaging around two weeks. Two additional flights are expected to arrive soon, bringing more Filipinos home.
The government is also coordinating closely with Philippine embassies, consulates, and partner organizations to maximize repatriation efforts and support affected workers.
As part of its reintegration program, the National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) is offering free training and accommodation for returning seafarers and OFWs. Available courses include Basic Training, Mental Health Awareness for Seafarers, and refresher programs in various maritime fields.
Repatriated workers may apply for training by submitting their name, contact details, and preferred course via email.
