MANILA – Malacañang on Thursday assured the public that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains undistracted by false claims about his health, staying focused on resolving the country’s energy emergency.
Acting PCO Secretary Dave Gomez said the agency’s Anti-Fake News Desk has observed a “coordinated spike” in disinformation across social media, prompting authorities to prepare legal measures against those responsible.
“We are facing an energy crisis. The President is concentrating on concrete solutions rather than the noise online,” Gomez said.
The national energy emergency was declared after global oil supply disruptions, driven by Middle East tensions, led to rising fuel prices and supply concerns.
Gomez highlighted that disinformation has not only circulated online but has also affected some traditional media outlets. The PCO is documenting every misleading post as part of evidence for eventual legal proceedings.
“Our team is tracking every false claim and will identify the perpetrators to file charges once the evidence is complete,” he said, noting the campaign’s timing appears designed to disrupt the government.
President Marcos, who recovered from diverticulitis earlier this year, has downplayed the rumors, affirming that he has returned to his normal routine.
