A viral video has sparked outrage and sympathy across social media, showing a man refueling his vehicle at a gas station in Quezon City, only to drive away without paying.
The 27-year-old TNVS driver, identified as Jefferson, allegedly fled the scene, leaving behind P5,000 worth of fuel.
The video, captured by a CCTV camera, shows Jefferson calmly pumping gas into his vehicle before speeding off. The footage quickly spread online, with many netizens expressing shock and anger at his actions. However, some have also expressed understanding, citing the ongoing fuel crisis and economic struggles that may have driven him to desperation.
“Fuel prices have been skyrocketing, and it’s getting harder to make ends meet,” said a commenter. “I don’t condone his actions, but I can understand why he did it.”
Jefferson has since surrendered to authorities and is facing estafa charges. His family has apologized for his actions, saying he was under pressure due to the fuel crisis and financial difficulties.
The incident highlights the struggles many Filipinos face amid the economic challenges. As the country grapples with the fuel crisis, stories like Jefferson’s serve as a reminder of the human impact.
