MANILA – The energization of MTerra Solar’s 250 MW solar plant and 450 MWh battery storage system is set to strengthen the Philippines’ energy system, the Department of Energy (DOE) reported Monday.
DOE Secretary Sharon Garin said the new capacity will reinforce the country’s ability to cope with external shocks, safeguard consumers, and maintain reliable electricity supply.
“In light of the Middle East crisis, advancing renewable energy and storage is not just strategic—it’s a national necessity,” Garin added.
Terra Solar Philippines Inc. (MTerra Solar) has brought online its first 250 MW of solar generation capacity, providing clean and dependable energy to meet the country’s increasing electricity demand.
The facility also deployed the first phase of its battery energy storage system, capable of delivering 450 MWh to the grid overnight, making it the largest operational BESS in the nation.
The DOE highlighted that this new capacity will improve grid stability, provide flexible energy management, and lessen dependence on imported fuel. The agency remains committed to accelerating renewable energy and storage projects in partnership with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the Energy Regulatory Commission, and other key players.
