MANILA – The chief of the PNP-Highway Patrol Group, Brig. Gen. Jessie Tamayao, resigned Wednesday following a sexual harassment complaint lodged by a female officer before the National Police Commission (Napolcom).
Tamayao emphasized that he strongly denies the allegations. “I am stepping down to allow for an unbiased, fair, and transparent investigation. I want to ensure that my position does not affect the process in any way,” he said.
He added, “Throughout my 30-year service, I have never been accused of misconduct. I have advanced in my career through dedication, integrity, and hard work.”
The complaint, which seeks his dismissal, cites potential violations of RA 7877 (Anti-Sexual Harassment Act) and RA 10173 (Data Privacy Act). It alleges that Tamayao made sexual advances, physically touched the officer inappropriately, and intimidated her with threats of reassignment to Mindanao.
The complainant also claimed that Tamayao accessed her cellphone without consent, viewed private messages, and captured images from her devices and messaging apps, threatening to use the material against her if she reported the incident.
Napolcom has not released the name of the officer filing the complaint.
