MANILA — After a tough round of 16 loss at the Miami Open, Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala drops from No. 29 to about No. 45 in the WTA rankings. The 20-year-old lost 270 points after last year’s semifinal points expired.
Eala fell to Karolina Muchova (0-6, 2-6), but she now sets her sights on the Linz Open in Austria, where she could regain lost ground. With no points to defend, a semifinal finish could put her back into the top 30, while a runner-up or title win could achieve a new career-best ranking, potentially cracking the top 25.
The Filipino rising star is showing that one setback won’t slow her climb in the global tennis scene.
