
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine women’s basketball team has surged to 30th in the FIBA world rankings, marking a nine-place jump after a standout showing in the FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
FIBA unveiled the latest global rankings on Friday, confirming the rise of Gilas Women from their previous 39th position in August 2025.
The team capped off their first qualifying campaign with a 74-59 win over Colombia, finishing fifth overall in the France-hosted tournament.
The United States remains the top-ranked women’s team in the world, followed by France, Australia, China, and Belgium. Spain, Canada, Nigeria, Brazil, and Japan round out the top ten positions.
In Asia, the Philippines holds the sixth spot, making them the strongest women’s basketball team in Southeast Asia, behind Australia, China, Japan, Korea (15th), and New Zealand (21st).
