Traffic volume across Metro Manila has slightly eased after authorities recorded fewer vehicles on the road in recent days, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
Based on monitoring cited in a “24 Oras” report, about 30,000 fewer vehicles were counted between March 16 and March 18, 2026, compared with traffic levels in the weeks prior.
MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III said the figures represent roughly an 8 percent decline in road traffic.
The agency attributed the decrease partly to motorists choosing public transportation, such as trains and buses, as alternative travel options.
Officials are also considering the potential implementation of private carpooling, though the agency emphasized that such arrangements must comply with rules preventing unregistered or colorum transport services.
At the same time, the MMDA is preparing for a possible rise in the use of bicycles and electric scooters for daily commuting.
To support this shift, Torre said the agency is upgrading bike lanes and reinforcing safety policies for cyclists. Earlier this week, the MMDA also launched a new end-of-trip facility equipped with showers and restrooms at the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy along Julia Vargas Avenue.
