MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) is urging the public to join the fight against tuberculosis (TB) as part of the global effort to end the disease. The DOH has launched the ‘Light Up PH para sa Pilipinas na tuberculosis-free’ campaign, calling on community leaders and various sectors to participate in a symbolic light-up ceremony on March 24.
On March 24 at 6:00 p.m., communities across the country are invited to light up red lights to show their commitment to ending TB. The DOH encourages organizers to use alternative energy sources and energy-efficient lighting for the 5-minute ceremony.
“Tuberculosis is a curable and preventable disease, yet it remains a major public health concern in the Philippines,” said a DOH spokesperson. “We need to work together to raise awareness, detect cases early, and provide treatment to those affected.”
The DOH is partnering with local governments, healthcare providers, and community organizations to make the event a success. “We invite everyone to join us in this effort and show our solidarity in the fight against TB,” added the spokesperson.
The ‘Light Up PH’ campaign is part of the DOH’s broader strategy to eliminate TB in the Philippines by 2035. With the support of the public, the DOH aims to reduce TB incidence and mortality rates, and ultimately, make the country TB-free.
