MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis standout Alex Eala saw a sharp shift in the Women’s Tennis Association live rankings after points from last year’s tournament campaign expired.
Shortly after achieving a personal-best No. 29 in the official WTA rankings, Eala slid to No. 49 in the live standings Monday evening ahead of her participation in the Miami Open, a WTA 1000 event.
The drop reflects the removal of 390 ranking points she collected from her remarkable semifinal appearance at the tournament in 2025.
This year, Eala entered the competition as the 31st seed, earning a first-round bye that moved her directly into the Round of 64. The automatic advancement secured 10 points, slightly offsetting the loss and reducing the deduction to 380.
With the adjustment, her ranking total fell from 1,525 points to 1,145.
The WTA ranking system updates weekly, with points from tournaments remaining valid for one year before being replaced by new results.
