MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. underscored the need to modernize the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), saying improved training is essential in preparing future officers for the changing demands of law enforcement.
During the 46th PNPA Grand Alumni Homecoming held Saturday in Silang, Cavite, Nartatez highlighted the academy’s critical role in producing capable police officers ready to confront real-world security challenges.
He said the PNP is committed to ensuring that cadets receive training that meets global standards while upholding the core values of integrity and excellence in policing.
“Our aim is to develop cadets who possess the skills, knowledge, and ethical foundation needed to effectively serve and protect the Filipino people,” Nartatez said in a statement issued Monday.
According to the PNP chief, the organization is coordinating closely with the academy’s leadership to further enhance both its academic programs and field training components.
Nartatez also reiterated the academy’s firm stance against hazing, stressing that any individual involved in such practices—whether a cadet or officer—will be promptly removed from service.
He emphasized that discipline should never come at the expense of cadets’ safety, noting that the academy is adopting more scientific approaches to physical training and building psychological resilience among future officers.
“Our training must strengthen character without causing harm. We want competent and disciplined officers, not those who endured abuse to prove toughness,” he said.
