ILOILO CITY – Parents, guardians, and student leaders in Iloilo City gathered on Saturday for the MTRCB’s “Responsableng Panonood” (Responsible Viewing) campaign, designed to encourage adult supervision of children’s media habits.
MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto-Antonio underscored that the initiative aims to help adults monitor the viewing habits of young audiences. “We want teachers and parents to engage actively in guiding what children watch,” she stated.
She noted that the board’s authority does not cover online streaming or social media, which can pose significant risks. “Our jurisdiction is limited to television and films, so we focus on educating communities about media literacy and responsible viewing,” Sotto-Antonio said.
The event highlighted safety measures, parental controls, and reporting options available on various platforms to ensure content aligns with age-appropriate standards. “Age-appropriate content protection is central to MTRCB’s mission,” she said.
Meanwhile, Iloilo City Lone District Rep. Julienne Baronda announced plans to propose legislation that would expand MTRCB’s powers. “We need to amend the law to empower MTRCB and better safeguard children,” she said.
