MANILA — In response to rising fuel prices linked to Middle East tensions, the government will provide a P5,000 subsidy to public utility vehicle drivers, including jeepney and tricycle operators.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto met with Metro Manila mayors to ensure the assistance is distributed quickly and efficiently.
“Mayors know best the situation on the ground and the number of drivers in their cities. By working together, we can make sure aid reaches those who need it most,” Recto said.
The distribution will start next week in Metro Manila, led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), before expanding nationwide.
With oil prices on the rise, the subsidy aims to ease the financial strain on drivers who rely on fuel for their livelihoods.
