MANILA – Cebu Island is capturing international attention once again, this time through the Netflix romantic comedy Boyfriend on Demand, featuring K-pop star Jisoo from Blackpink and South Korean actor Seo In-guk.
The series, now fifth on Netflix’s global Top 10 TV shows list, tells the story of a woman exploring romance through a virtual dating service. Scenes filmed in Cebu in February 2025 spotlight the island’s pristine beaches, cultural offerings, and the dedication of Filipino tourism staff.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) said in a statement that the Cebu shoot involved close coordination with local tourism partners and airport authorities to ensure smooth logistics for the production team.
“By showcasing our destinations internationally, we create opportunities for local communities and tourism frontliners while encouraging visitors to experience the Philippines firsthand,” Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said.
Frasco added that the project aligns with the government’s push to highlight both the country’s natural beauty and the hospitality of its tourism workforce.
Seo, acting as the Philippines Celebrity Tourism Ambassador to South Korea, has previously worked on campaigns and cultural exchanges promoting Philippine destinations. The DOT emphasized that his involvement in the series strengthens Cebu’s visibility among Korean viewers, a vital tourism market for the country.
Boyfriend on Demand premiered on Netflix on March 6, with all 10 episodes available for streaming. It currently ranks second in the platform’s Top TV Shows in the Philippines.
