MANILA – Rain showers are expected in sections of Northern Luzon on Friday due to the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” the Philippine weather bureau reported.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Batanes and the Babuyan Islands are likely to experience light rainfall, while Ilocos Norte, Apayao, and mainland Cagayan may have isolated light rains.
PAGASA forecaster Veronica Torres said easterlies will continue to bring generally clear weather conditions over Metro Manila and most of the country.
Despite the fair weather, Torres cautioned that thunderstorms may still develop and could lead to flash floods or landslides in certain areas.
Temperatures could climb to 33°C in Zamboanga, while Metro Manila, Legazpi, Laoag, Kalayaan Islands, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo, Tacloban, and Davao are expected to reach around 32°C.
The highest projected heat index for the day is 42°C in Coron, Palawan.
Moderate winds and seas are forecast for Northern Luzon, while other regions will have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
PAGASA also confirmed that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored within the country’s area of responsibility.
