MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will raise its alert status nationwide from October 30 to November 2, deploying security and emergency support to 5,628 cemeteries and columbaria as millions of Filipinos pay tribute to their departed loved ones.
PNP spokesman Allen Rae Co said police assistance desks, medical teams and emergency responders will be positioned at burial grounds to provide immediate help and maintain public safety throughout the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day observance.
While authorities have not detected any specific threat linked to Undas, Co said the police force would remain on guard throughout the period.
In San Juan City, Mayor Francis Zamora inspected the local cemetery on Thursday to determine whether preparations were sufficient to handle the expected surge in visitors.
The assessment covered sanitation, security, traffic control and emergency services, including coordination among city government offices, law enforcement units and first responders.
The city government has also issued guidelines for its extended Undas preparation period from October 26 to November 2, reminding visitors to comply with cemetery schedules, maintain cleanliness, observe traffic rules and park only in designated areas.
Weapons and potentially dangerous items, including firearms, knives, ice picks and other sharp objects, are prohibited inside cemetery grounds. Alcoholic drinks, illegal drugs, gambling and loud sound systems are also banned.
Authorities likewise prohibited unauthorized vendors operating without a Special Mayor’s Permit and the use of unauthorized electrical connections. Bicycles and motorcycles are barred from entering the cemetery.
With police and local officials preparing for the annual influx of mourners, authorities are urging the public to observe cemetery regulations and cooperate with security personnel to prevent disruptions and ensure a peaceful commemoration.
