MANILA, Philippines — A mix of warm weather and localized thunderstorms is expected across the Philippines on Friday and Saturday, with residents advised to stay alert for sudden downpours that could disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) expects changing weather conditions in several parts of the archipelago as prevailing wind systems and the Intertropical Convergence Zone influence local weather patterns.
On Friday, October 16, the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, the Visayas and Mindanao may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Aurora and Quezon may also see similar conditions due to the easterlies.
Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon are likely to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Batanes and the Babuyan Islands may experience occasional light rains associated with the northeasterly wind flow.
For Saturday, October 17, thunderstorms and localized rainfall may continue in several areas, especially across the central and southern Philippines. Other locations could enjoy periods of sunshine before clouds build up later in the day.
PAGASA cautioned that intense thunderstorms may bring heavy rain capable of triggering flash floods and landslides in susceptible areas. Residents in low-lying communities and near mountain slopes should remain vigilant, particularly during prolonged or heavy rainfall.
The public is encouraged to monitor official weather updates before travelling or scheduling outdoor events. Motorists should slow down on rain-soaked roads, while residents are reminded to stay away from swollen rivers and floodwaters.
Authorities also urged communities to follow local government advisories and prepare for sudden weather changes, especially in areas prone to flooding.
With conditions varying from one region to another, the public should rely on the latest PAGASA bulletins for location-specific forecasts and warnings.
