MANILA — Security guards in Baguio City may soon have a faster way to report incidents and coordinate with law enforcement through a digital platform being developed by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO).
The application, called the Guard’s Unified Assistance and Reporting Digital Link (GUARDLINK), is intended to improve communication among security personnel and police, allowing incidents to be reported more efficiently and emergency responses to be better coordinated.
BCPO director Col. Nixon Laoyan said Thursday that the application remains in the coding stage and is expected to be rolled out soon.
According to the city police, GUARDLINK is designed to bring communication among security stakeholders into a centralized system, facilitating the exchange of information and helping authorities respond promptly to incidents.
The project was initiated during the leadership of former BCPO director Ruel Tagel, who was subsequently assigned to head the Regional Plans and Strategic Management Division of the Police Regional Office Cordillera.
Laoyan said the BCPO would continue pursuing initiatives aimed at improving police services, strengthening security and enhancing emergency response capabilities.
The planned rollout adds to the police office’s existing digital initiatives, including the BCPO Baguio View application. The latter provides residents and tourists with real-time information on traffic conditions, road accessibility to major tourist destinations, the status of tourist sites and available parking spaces.
The police chief also underscored the importance of maintaining a visible police presence through strategic deployments in schools, tourist destinations and other major gathering areas to help protect residents and visitors.
GUARDLINK is expected further to strengthen coordination between private security personnel and city police once it becomes operational.
