MANILA — Laguna Gov. Sol Aragones and House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III joined provincial lawmakers and local officials in a LegisHear Calamba, Laguna on Friday, where education, student safety, farmers’ welfare and citizen participation in lawmaking took center stage.
Dy said the congressional consultation aims to bring lawmakers closer to communities and gather public concerns and recommendations that could guide the drafting of responsive legislation.
He stressed that the needs of every town, city, barangay and smaller community must be heard to ensure that proposed laws address the actual conditions of Filipinos.
Education, he said, remains a priority in national budget deliberations, with the government expected to provide young Filipinos greater access to learning and opportunities for a better future.
Dy also called for closer coordination among parents, parent-teacher associations, teachers, barangay officials and local government units to strengthen measures protecting students inside and outside school premises.
Also attending the LegisHear were Laguna congressional representatives Loreto Amante of the Third District, Roy Gonzales of Santa Rosa City, Charisse Anne Hernandez of Calamba City, Ann Matibag of the First District, Ramil Hernandez of the Second District, and Benjamin Agarao Jr. of the Fourth District.
Beyond education and youth safety, the Speaker underscored the importance of addressing farmers’ concerns and recognized barangay officials as frontline implementers of laws, local ordinances and basic government services.
He assured participants that the 20th Congress would continue to listen to citizens’ concerns and consider their recommendations in pursuing legislation aimed at community and national development.
The gathering provided a venue for residents and local officials to raise concerns directly with lawmakers and discuss issues affecting their communities.
