MANILA — Travellers flying between Manila and Saudi Arabia face changes to their plans after Philippine Airlines cancelled two Riyadh-bound services amid continuing instability in the Middle East.
PAL announced Thursday that PR 654 from Manila to Riyadh on October 8 and PR 655 from Riyadh to Manila on October 10, 2026 will no longer operate.
The flag carrier said the decision was made in view of the developing situation in the region related to the US-Israel-Iran war.
PAL’s operations teams are now reviewing conditions at the airports involved and determining how the latest developments could affect succeeding flights.
The airline said passengers booked on the cancelled services have been informed and are being given information regarding available travel options.
PAL emphasized that the decision was made with the safety of its passengers and personnel foremost in mind.
“The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” the airline said.
The carrier also assured passengers that it would continue monitoring developments and release additional information whenever necessary.
The cancellation of the two flights comes as international airlines operating in the Middle East remain alert to changes in the regional security environment. Any developments that affect airport operations or flight routes could result in further adjustments to scheduled services.
PAL has not announced additional cancellations involving other Middle East routes as of Thursday, but said its operational teams are assessing the circumstances and their possible impact on subsequent flights.
Passengers with upcoming PAL itineraries are advised to monitor official airline announcements and check their flight status before proceeding to the airport.
The flag carrier said it will continue to make operational decisions based on prevailing conditions and the safety of its passengers and crew.
