MANILA — Malacañang said the Marcos administration is concentrating on pressing national concerns rather than early political maneuvering for the 2028 presidential elections.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement amid reports that the administration is looking into a possible political tandem for the next presidential race.
Castro said she had not been given details about the reported tandem, emphasizing that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. remains focused on immediate issues confronting the country.
Among these concerns are preparations for the possible impact of the upcoming Super El Niño phenomenon and the continuing crisis in the Middle East.
“Marami pang dapat tugunan, pati itong mga isyu tungkol sa krisis sa Middle East. So, sa ngayon ay hindi politika o pamumulitika ang iniisip ng administrasyon,” Castro said.
Castro’s remarks came as speculation over possible 2028 political alignments begins to surface, more than a year before the May 2028 presidential election.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Communications Office said the Office of the President has yet to receive a copy of the petition filed before the Supreme Court questioning the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
