MANILA — The Philippines’ long-running campaign against smoking has gained further recognition as Baguio City and Pasig City were honored at this year’s Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Smoke-Free Awards.
Baguio received the Gold Award, while Pasig City earned the Bronze Award, recognizing their sustained efforts to promote healthier and smoke-free communities.
The Department of Health (DOH) congratulated both local government units, citing their continuing commitment to protecting residents from the harmful effects of tobacco use and creating cleaner public spaces.
The recognition also highlights the important role of local governments in implementing smoke-free policies, promoting public awareness and encouraging healthier lifestyles among their constituents.
“Isang malaking tagumpay para sa mga lungsod na inuuna ang kalusugan ng mga mamamayan! Sama-sama nating ipagpatuloy ang laban para sa mas ligtas at smoke-free na Pilipinas,” the DOH said in a post on its official website.
The health department urged communities and local governments to sustain efforts toward a safer, healthier and smoke-free Philippines.
