MANILA — A staff member of the Manila City Hall Engineering Department cleaned the Martial Law marker at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as the city prepared for the 54th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law.

The cleanup came two days before the September 21 commemoration, a date that continues to be marked by memorial activities, public gatherings and protests recalling the years of Martial Law under the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
The Kartilya ng Katipunan, beside Manila City Hall, has become one of the sites associated with the remembrance of victims and survivors of Martial Law. The area also features a memorial wall honoring those who suffered during the period.
The cleaning of the marker was part of preparations to ensure that the memorial site was ready for activities marking the anniversary.
