MANILA — It could be sunshine first and rain later for many Filipinos as the country braces for another two days of warm weather mixed with possible showers and thunderstorms.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is forecasting partly cloudy to cloudy skies in many areas today, Wednesday, September 16, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms possible.
Temperatures will remain on the warm side, with many areas experiencing daytime readings in the low 30s Celsius.
For residents in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, the day may begin with partly cloudy conditions before clouds build up later. Localized rain showers and thunderstorms remain possible, meaning commuters should be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
The same pattern is expected to continue tomorrow, Thursday, September 17.
PAGASA’s extended weather outlook shows generally similar conditions for the two days, with rain showers and thunderstorms possible across different parts of the country. Depending on the locality, temperatures may reach around 30 to 33 degrees Celsius.
The weather may be particularly unpredictable for people planning outdoor activities. A bright morning does not necessarily mean the afternoon will remain dry.
This is because thunderstorms can develop rapidly when warm and humid air combines with favorable atmospheric conditions. A sudden downpour may last only a short time in one location while nearby communities remain relatively dry.
For motorists, the changing conditions mean extra caution is necessary. Wet roads can become slippery, while heavy showers may temporarily reduce visibility. Drivers should slow down when rain becomes intense and watch for areas prone to flooding.
Motorcycle riders and pedestrians should likewise be prepared to seek shelter if thunderstorms develop.
PAGASA’s weekly weather outlook says the southwest monsoon will prevail over the western sections of Visayas and Mindanao from Wednesday through Friday, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms to several areas. Bicol Region, Northern Samar and Quezon may also experience thunderstorms, while Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
So, what should Filipinos expect today and tomorrow?
A little bit of everything.
There may be enough sunshine to make the day feel hot, followed by clouds and sudden rain that can catch commuters off guard.
The safest bet is to stay updated with PAGASA bulletins, stay hydrated during the warmer periods and bring an umbrella before leaving home.
In September, the weather can change in a hurry — and today and tomorrow may be no different.
