MANILA — A new ₱10-million healthcare facility has been turned over in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte, expanding access to essential medical services for residents who previously had to travel to distant cities for routine consultations and other basic healthcare needs.
The Department of Health (DOH) Ilocos Region formally led the turnover and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Nueva Era Super Health Center, marking the facility’s entry into local healthcare service delivery.
Funded under the DOH Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) for Fiscal Year 2023, the project was developed through a partnership between the DOH and the Local Government Unit of Nueva Era, with the legislative initiative of Ilocos Norte Second District Congressman Angelo Marcos Barba helping advance the project.
More than a new government building, the facility is designed to serve as an enhanced primary care hub for residents of the municipality.
The Super Health Center will provide diagnostic and medical services, outpatient care, pharmacy services, and emergency maternal and medical response, giving residents access to a broader range of essential services within their own community.
The facility is particularly significant for geographically isolated residents, as it is intended to reduce the need for families to make costly and time-consuming trips to urban centers for medical consultations and other primary healthcare requirements.
During the inauguration, DOH Ilocos Norte Provincial Health Team Leader John Lee Gacusan and Congressman Barba led the ribbon-cutting ceremony with Nueva Era Mayor Atty. Aldrin R. Garvida.
Garvida thanked the Department of Health for its support and reaffirmed the municipal government’s commitment to strengthening local infrastructure.
He underscored the importance of bringing healthcare closer to communities, pointing to decentralized health services as an important component of building a more resilient workforce in Ilocos Norte.
The Nueva Era Super Health Center is part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level by placing essential services closer to the people who need them—particularly communities where distance can remain a major barrier to timely medical care.
