MANILA, Philippines — A police officer returning home after duty stepped in to assist a woman in active labor and helped deliver her baby along a roadside in Malabon City on Sunday morning.
Police Staff Patrolman Roselindo Delima, a TMRU personnel of the Sta. Cruz Police Station (PS-3), encountered Michaella Joy Sisson at about 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 while she was experiencing labor pains and having difficulty giving birth along Gov. Pascua Avenue corner Catmon.
Delima had just completed his second-shift duty and was on his way home when he came across the emergency.
Without hesitation, the police officer immediately rendered assistance and helped Sisson through the childbirth, prioritizing the safety of both the mother and her newborn.
His response came outside his regular duty hours, with the incident highlighting the immediate assistance police personnel can provide during emergencies encountered in the community.
After the delivery, the mother and newborn were safely transported to a hospital for proper medical attention and assistance.
The incident was recognized under the Philippine National Police’s Good Deeds initiative, underscoring the PNP’s emphasis on responsive, compassionate and community-oriented service.
Delima’s intervention allowed medical care to be sought promptly after the roadside childbirth, ensuring that both mother and baby were brought safely to a medical facility.
