MANILA, Philippines — Apart from being hailed as the country’s tennis icon, Filipina netter Alexandra ‘Alex’ Eala has recently gained attention from no less than Anna Wintour, former editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and co-chair of the Met Gala.
In an interview with the US Open, Wintour observed the Filipina tennis star’s interest in fashion based on her stylish looks on the court.
Vogue’s ex-editor enthused that the 21-year-old could be ‘the next fashion icon as she compared the Philippines’ tennis ace to the legendary Serena Williams and Japan’s Naomi Osaka.
“Well I think it’s really interesting, especially when you look at players (like) Serena or Naomi, who really embrace fashion and express themselves with it,” Wintour pointed out.
The former lifestyle and fashion editor went on, referring to Eala: “And we have the young Filipino star . . . you could see even in such a young star how interested she is in fashion and how she wants to learn about it and follow it.”
“I think it’s great, it’s wonderful how sports and fashion have become this wonderful sort of marriage,” she added to conclude.
