MANILA, Philippines — Manila Vice Mayor Chi Atienza was named the country’s 3rd Outstanding Vice Mayor at the Gawad Pilipino Awards, earning national recognition for her work as presiding officer of the 13th Manila City Council.
Atienza received the distinction during ceremonies at the AFP Commissioned Officers Club House in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, where she was recognized among the Ten Outstanding Vice Mayors in the Philippines.
The award cited local officials who have demonstrated exemplary governance, community-focused legislation and proactive public service.
Fourth District Councilor Eunice Ann Denice Castro was also recognized as one of the country’s Outstanding Councilors, giving the 13th Manila City Council two national awardees.
Atienza dedicated the recognition to Manileños and credited the city government, the City Council and Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso for their collective efforts.
“Maraming, maraming salamat po sa Gawad Pilipino Awards sa pagkilalang ito bilang 3rd Outstanding Vice Mayor in the Philippines,” Atienza said.
She said the award would motivate her to work harder in advancing measures for the city and improving her performance as presiding officer.
“Maraming salamat po sa tiwala at suporta. Magsisipag pa po tayong maglingkod para sa ating lungsod,” she said.
The Office of the Vice Mayor said the recognition would further encourage closer coordination between Manila’s executive and legislative branches in pursuing measures on healthcare, social welfare and livelihood assistance.
Atienza is currently serving her first year as head of the 13th Manila City Council.
