MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte has launched another legal challenge against Ramil Madriaga, filing a second perjury complaint over statements he made during the House impeachment proceedings.
Duterte personally went to the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office on Monday to lodge the complaint, accompanied by lawyer Paolo Panelo.
Madriaga had appeared before the House Committee on Justice as a witness during the impeachment proceedings against Duterte, where he made allegations involving the Vice President’s political and financial activities.
The latest complaint comes on top of Duterte’s earlier perjury case against Madriaga over his allegations that her 2022 campaign received funding from drug dealers and Philippine offshore gaming operators.
Duterte’s filing puts Madriaga under renewed legal pressure as she challenges the statements he made before the House panel.
The Vice President’s second complaint now adds another legal front to the continuing fallout from the impeachment proceedings, with Madriaga’s testimony once again becoming the subject of a criminal complaint.
