MANILA — Eight Filipino teachers escaped injury after a shooting on Friday (07 Aug 2026) at Debsirin School Nonthaburi in Thailand left five people dead, the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok said.
The embassy confirmed that all eight Filipino nationals at the school were safe following the incident.
Thai authorities said a 14-year-old boy was responsible for the shooting. He reportedly opened fire inside the school northwest of Bangkok, killing five staff members before taking his own life.
Before the school attack, the teenager allegedly shot and killed his grandparents with a firearm belonging to his grandfather.
Investigators are examining the circumstances that may have led to the violence. Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect had been under pressure because of difficulties with his studies and may have planned the attack beforehand.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, including how the teenager gained access to the firearm.
