
HAMILTON, Canada — Authorities have launched an investigation into a deadly mass shooting that left several people dead and at least one person injured at a residence in Prospect Hill, North Carolina, on Wednesday.
According to the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of gunfire on Brooks Road shortly before 8 a.m. local time. Responding officers found multiple victims with gunshot wounds.
One injured victim was transported to Duke University Hospital, while several others were declared dead at the scene.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has joined local deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in examining the incident. Investigators are processing the crime scene, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses.
Authorities are also working to notify the victims’ families.
Officials said the shooting was isolated to the property and that there is no continuing threat to the surrounding community.
