MANILA, Philippines — The Senate has officially received the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, in connection with the ongoing impeachment proceedings against the Vice President.
The documents were released by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) following authorization from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Included in the submission are the tax records of the couple and several corporations reportedly associated with them.
According to Senate officials, the records are currently undergoing inventory and documentation procedures, along with other materials obtained through subpoenas. Copies of the documents will be provided to the parties involved in the impeachment trial once processing is completed.
The tax records are expected to form part of the documentary evidence that may be examined during the proceedings, particularly on matters relating to financial transactions and the operations of entities linked to the Vice President and her husband.
Senate officials emphasized that all evidence submitted to the impeachment court will be subject to proper handling and verification before it is formally presented during the trial.
Meanwhile, Senator Erwin Tulfo said the impeachment court will maintain its current hearing schedule from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., every Monday through Wednesday.
A proposal raised during an earlier hearing by Senator Migz Zubiri to move the schedule to 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. was not adopted. Senator Panfilo Lacson argued that the existing timetable provides adequate time for the presentation of evidence and witness testimonies while allowing senator-judges sufficient time for preparation.
The impeachment proceedings are expected to continue under the established schedule unless modified by the Senate impeachment court.
