MANILA, Philippines — The trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) east of Southern Luzon is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over several parts of the country on Friday, while the rest of the Philippines will continue to experience generally fair weather interrupted by localized afternoon or evening thunderstorms, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA said the weather disturbance will primarily affect the Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Masbate, Sarangani, and South Cotabato, where moderate to at times heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods or landslides, particularly in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, including most areas outside the LPA’s direct influence, are expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening due to localized convective activity.
PAGASA advised residents in areas prone to flooding and landslides to remain vigilant as thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall within a short period. Motorists were also urged to exercise caution, particularly during periods of reduced visibility caused by heavy downpours.
The state weather bureau added that sea conditions will remain generally slight to moderate across the country’s coastal waters, allowing most fishing vessels and small sea craft to operate normally. However, mariners are still advised to monitor the latest weather bulletins before venturing out to sea.
PAGASA said it continues to closely monitor the LPA and advised the public to stay updated through its official weather advisories, as weather conditions may change depending on the movement and development of the system.
