MANILA — A renewed campaign to clear Metro Manila’s roads of illegally parked vehicles and other obstructions led to the apprehension of dozens of traffic violators, with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issuing citations to 41 motorists and towing 10 vehicles during Monday’s enforcement operations.
The MMDA deployed its Special Operations Group–Task Force Road Clearing to several congestion-prone streets in Manila and Quezon City following complaints from motorists and residents.
Among the areas covered were Biak na Bato, Mayon, Antipolo, Mindanao, and Silencio streets, where illegally parked vehicles and other roadside obstructions were removed to restore the full use of public roads.
Vehicles found violating parking regulations were transported to the MMDA impounding facility in Tumana, Marikina City, while their owners were issued the corresponding traffic citations.
The latest enforcement drive is part of the agency’s broader effort to improve mobility by reclaiming road space that has long been occupied by unauthorized parking and other obstructions.
The MMDA also reported the results of a separate anti-illegal parking campaign conducted on July 17, when its Swift Action Group carried out inspections across 12 strategic locations in Metro Manila.
That operation resulted in 41 violators being cited through the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP), while 20 additional motorists were issued tickets through face-to-face enforcement. Authorities also impounded another vehicle for violating traffic regulations.
The earlier operation covered major transport corridors and gateway areas, including EDSA, Sales Road, Andrews Avenue, NAIA Road, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminals, Aurora Boulevard (Tramo), Domestic Road, EDSA-Malibay, PITX, Macapagal Boulevard, Roxas Boulevard, and the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
The MMDA said it will sustain its clearing operations as part of its ongoing campaign to ease congestion, improve road safety, and ensure that public streets remain unobstructed for motorists, commuters, and emergency vehicles.
