MANILA — The Australian government has introduced a P1.6-billion education assistance program that aims to enhance learning outcomes and improve workforce readiness among Filipino students over the next five years.
The program, called Education Quality for Inclusive Prosperity (EQUIP), was announced Tuesday by the Australian Embassy in Manila during the official visit of Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, who is attending the ASEAN meetings hosted by the Philippines.
Designed to support ongoing education reforms, EQUIP will help schools strengthen their senior secondary education programs by aligning instruction with the skills required in today’s fast-changing economy.
Under the initiative, students will benefit from expanded opportunities for technical training, practical workplace experience, and access to nationally recognized qualifications in industries with high employment demand.
Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown said Australia remains committed to its decades-long partnership with the Philippines in promoting quality education and human capital development.
He noted that improving access to high-quality senior secondary education will not only enhance employment opportunities for Filipino youth but also contribute to building a stronger and more competitive workforce capable of driving long-term economic growth.
According to the Australian Embassy, the EQUIP program reflects Canberra’s continued support for the Philippine government’s efforts to invest in education, develop skilled workers, and foster inclusive and sustainable economic progress.
