MANILA — Health Secretary Ted Herbosa is on sick leave following a successful knee replacement surgery and is currently undergoing physical therapy and rehabilitation, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
DOH Undersecretary Albert Domingo confirmed that the procedure was completed successfully and that Herbosa is now focused on his recovery.
Domingo also clarified that his designation as Officer-in-Charge of the DOH is a routine administrative arrangement while the Health Secretary is on medical leave. He said it is standard practice for the department’s chief of staff to assume the role of Officer-in-Charge during the secretary’s temporary absence.
He emphasized that the designation is neither unusual nor controversial, stressing that it is part of the department’s regular succession protocol.
The DOH has yet to announce when Herbosa is expected to resume his official duties.
