MANILA — Seventeen fatalities have been reported in areas affected by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Inday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
In its latest report released Saturday, the agency said the deaths were attributed to drowning and landslide incidents. The fatalities included two in Bukidnon, 10 in Malapatan, Sarangani, and five in Calanogas, Lanao del Sur.
Four persons sustained injuries from landslides in Torrijos, Marinduque; Malapatan; and Calanogas.
Authorities are also searching for nine missing individuals, consisting of three residents from Malapatan and six from Calanogas.
The NDRRMC estimated that about 514,700 people have been affected by the weather disturbance. Around 14,000 families were forced to leave their homes, with roughly 2,900 families taking shelter in evacuation centers.
Government agencies have extended PHP16.41 million in relief assistance to impacted families and communities.
PAGASA announced that Typhoon Inday left the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 8 a.m. Saturday.
However, Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and northern mainland Cagayan, based on the weather bureau’s 11 a.m. bulletin.
