MANILA — A call center agent was killed early Sunday morning after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a concrete barrier on the Zamora Link Bridge in Pandacan, Manila, police said.
The fatal self-accident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. on July 5 within the area of responsibility of Police Station 10.
The victim was identified as James Allen Fernandez, of legal age, single, and a resident of 25 G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City. He was driving a Honda Click motorcycle bearing plate number 189-XYI.
Initial investigation by Police Corporal Rustom Arcyll De Guzman revealed that Fernandez was traveling along the Zamora Link Bridge when he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle upon reaching the highest portion of the bridge.
The motorcycle slammed into the bridge’s concrete barrier with great force, causing the rider to be thrown over the edge of the bridge. He fell onto the ground beneath the structure and sustained critical injuries.
Personnel from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) immediately responded to the scene and rushed the victim to Sta. Ana Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite efforts by attending physician Dr. John S. Pega to revive him, Fernandez was declared dead on arrival at 8:02 a.m.
Police said no other vehicle was involved in the incident, indicating that the crash was a self-accident.
The victim’s remains are currently under the custody of the Sta. Ana Hospital morgue pending a medico-legal examination and release to his family.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal accident, including whether excessive speed, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the rider’s loss of control.
