MANILA — Despite the absence of a major weather disturbance affecting the Philippines, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the country on Saturday, the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA said warm easterly winds continue to influence the country’s weather, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers over Cagayan Valley, the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, and Dinagat Islands.
The same forecast applies to Metro Manila and the rest of the country, where localized thunderstorms may occur, particularly during the afternoon and evening.
The weather bureau advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms, noting that sudden heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds may occur even under generally fair weather conditions. Such weather events could trigger localized flooding and other minor weather-related hazards.
Across the country, light to moderate winds and slight to moderate sea conditions are expected, allowing generally favorable conditions for marine activities. However, fishermen and small boat operators are still encouraged to monitor the latest weather advisories before heading out to sea.
Meanwhile, PAGASA continues to monitor Super Typhoon Bavi, which remains well outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Based on the agency’s latest bulletin, the typhoon was spotted around 2,985 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 3 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour, gusts of up to 240 kph, and moving westward at 15 kph.
Although the cyclone remains distant and has no direct impact on the country at present, PAGASA said it will continue issuing updates should the system move closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the coming days.
