MANILA — A total of 37 individuals in the Ilocos Region (Calasiao, Pangasinan) severed their links with communist-affiliated organizations during June, according to the Police Regional Office 1, as authorities continue efforts to weaken insurgent networks through community-based peace initiatives.
Police said 19 individuals identified with Communist Front Organizations voluntarily surrendered to authorities during the month. Another 11 formally signed declarations withdrawing their support for the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the New People’s Army.
The regional police also reported that three alleged members of the Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) group surrendered, while four members of Underground Mass Organizations (UGMOs) opted to return to government authority.
According to PRO-1, the latest developments reflect the continuing implementation of the government’s whole-of-nation strategy to address insurgency through coordinated law enforcement, community outreach, and reintegration programs designed to encourage former members and supporters to abandon armed struggle.
Brig. Gen. Jovencio Badua Jr. attributed the outcome to the sustained collaboration among police units, local government agencies, and other stakeholders working to strengthen peace and public safety across the Ilocos Region.
Badua emphasized that every individual who abandons armed violence and chooses to reintegrate into society contributes to the government’s long-term objective of achieving stable and peaceful communities.
The police leadership reiterated its commitment to continuing programs that encourage insurgents and their supporters to return to the fold of the law while expanding peace-building efforts throughout the region.
