MANILA — Protesters participating in the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)-organized rally are prepared for a lengthy stay at Liwasang Bonifacio, with Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste saying the movement could extend beyond the weekend.
Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Leviste said those who traveled from Batangas understand that achieving their objectives will take time and are willing to remain at the protest site for as long as necessary.
He added that more supporters from different parts of the country are expected to join the demonstration in the coming days, strengthening the ongoing mobilization.
Leviste also expressed hope that the government would demonstrate its commitment to genuine justice and accountability by addressing the protesters’ concerns.
The protest followed the Office of the Ombudsman’s decision to file non-bailable plunder charges against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who is affiliated with the Iglesia ni Cristo.
Initially staged near the People Power Monument in Quezon City on Tuesday, the rally was later relocated to Liwasang Bonifacio after city officials revoked the organizers’ permit due to concerns over traffic congestion and maintaining public order.
