TOKYO – Foreign travelers heading to Japan will soon face significantly higher visa fees after the government approved the first revision of its visa pricing structure since 1978.
The change was endorsed at a cabinet meeting on Friday, officially updating the fee schedule for foreign nationals applying for entry visas.
As part of the revision, the cost of a single-entry visa will jump from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while multiple-entry visas will rise from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
The new pricing will apply to visa applications submitted from July 1 onward.
According to Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, the adjustment is intended to align fees with rising costs, and authorities expect limited impact on tourism demand.
