MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ramping up security measures in anticipation of possible protest actions and large gatherings related to upcoming proceedings at the Senate and the House of Representatives.
PNP officials said they expect various groups to stage demonstrations and are taking proactive steps to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order throughout the duration of the proceedings.
To strengthen security operations, the PNP will deploy additional personnel from various police units alongside members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
Authorities said close coordination is underway with the Office of the Secretary and the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms to guarantee the effective implementation of security measures within and around the Senate complex.
However, police officials stressed that law enforcement personnel will not be allowed inside Senate premises unless specifically requested by Senate authorities or in the event of an emergency requiring immediate response.
The PNP is likewise coordinating with the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives to ensure similar security arrangements are in place for activities at the lower chamber.
Meanwhile, Malacañang said government agencies continue to coordinate with legal teams from both the prosecution and defense camps to facilitate the orderly conduct of the proceedings and avoid any disruption that could affect public order.
Authorities assured the public that adequate security measures have been prepared to safeguard participants, government officials, and civilians while respecting the constitutional independence of Congress and its respective chambers.
The heightened security posture comes as public interest remains focused on developments surrounding the highly anticipated legislative proceedings, which are expected to draw significant public attention and protest activities in the coming days.
