MANDALUYONG CITY — New witnesses emerged Tuesday during a gathering organized by former congressman Mike Defensor, where additional allegations were raised regarding the purported delivery of cash to public officials in connection with controversial flood control projects.
The meeting, which began in the afternoon at a private event venue, was attended by former bodyguards and individuals claiming to have firsthand knowledge of the alleged transactions. Organizers introduced four additional witnesses who presented accounts linking several personalities to the purported movement of large sums of money.
Defensor, joined by lawyer Levi Baligod, presided over the gathering, which proceeded despite the absence of several senators who had earlier been expected to attend.
Among the names mentioned during the proceedings was George Garcia. One witness alleged that cash-filled suitcases were delivered as part of the supposed transactions. No documentary or physical evidence was publicly presented to substantiate the claim.
Another witness alleged that money was delivered to former House Speaker Martin Romualdez at his residence in Forbes Park. The allegation echoed claims previously aired during discussions involving the alleged misuse of flood control funds.
The individuals named during the event have yet to issue official statements addressing the allegations.
Organizers indicated that more witnesses may come forward as the presentations continue. As of press time, the accusations remain unverified and have not been validated by any court, investigative agency, or law enforcement body.
