MANILA — The Cebu Provincial Board is set to rollout anadditional ₱25 million in financial assistance for provinces affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake last June 8 in North Central Mindanao.
After some deliberation, the provincial board authorized Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro to release ₱10 million to Sarangani and ₱5 million each to Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, and South Cotabato to help the affected areas to recover from the devastation wrought by the calamity.
The approved resolutions were authored by provincial board member Red Duterte and approved en masse during a session presided over by Duterte’s colleague Stanley Caminero.
The latest allocation comes on top of the ₱10 million assistance earlier approved by the provincial board for General Santos City, bringing Cebu’s total financial aid package for earthquake-affected areas to ₱35 million.
Being one of the strongest to hit the country in decades, the June 8 tremor caused widespread destruction and displaced thousands of residents.
On the latest count, the Office of Civil Defense reported that the death toll had risen to 61 as of June 13, while 1,221 people were injured and 33 others remain missing.
