MANILA — Members of the Senate majority bloc on Thursday visited earthquake-hit areas in General Santos City, Sarangani province to deliver relief assistance and assess the condition of communities affected by the recent strong tremor that struck parts of Mindanao.
Leading the humanitarian mission were Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, and Senators Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, JV Ejercito, and Erwin Tulfo.
The senators first proceeded to the municipality of Malapatan, where they met with residents displaced by the earthquake and distributed aid to evacuees and other affected families. The lawmakers also conducted an on-site assessment of the damage caused by the disaster.
The delegation later visited other areas in Sarangani, including the municipality of Glan, to evaluate the extent of the destruction and identify the immediate needs of local communities as recovery efforts continue.
The visit underscored ongoing government efforts to provide assistance to affected residents and support local authorities in responding to the aftermath of the earthquake.
The senators are also expected to return to General Santos City to extend additional relief assistance to families and communities impacted by the tremor.
Disaster response and rehabilitation operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to assess the full impact of the earthquake across affected areas in the region.
