MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has enough existing funds to proceed with the special elections in Cavite’s 4th District, Malacañang said Thursday.
According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has confirmed that the poll body can tap its current budget for the upcoming electoral exercise.
“We have consulted the DBM, and they said the Comelec still has available funds that may be used. The budget is sufficient,” Castro said.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia previously noted that around PHP200 million would be needed to conduct the special polls.
The Palace remark came after Comelec sought additional funding assistance for the election.
The August 2026 special election will fill the seat vacated by former Cavite 4th District representative Francisco Barzaga Jr., who was expelled from the House over disorderly behavior and violations of congressional rules.
