By Benjamin Cuaresma
MANILA — Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya was taken into custody Monday after operatives of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) served a warrant of arrest against him at the Senate compound.
At around 5 a.m., a CIDG convoy carrying Discaya departed the Senate premises following the completion of booking procedures.
Authorities said Iscaya would be brought to a court in Malolos, Bulacan, for the return of the warrant proceedings.
Questions remain as to whether Iscaya will be presented to the media, with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expected to hold a press briefing regarding the arrest.
Discaya is facing a non-bailable malversation case linked to alleged irregularities involving a flood control project in Barangay Bulosan, Bulakan, Bulacan.
Also named as respondents in the case are his wife, Sarah Discaya, along with former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bulacan officials Henry Alcantara and Bryce Hernandez.
Meanwhile, the situation outside the Senate remained peaceful despite the high-profile arrest. Police personnel maintained security in the area while traffic flowed normally along nearby roads.
Supporters of Senator Ronald dela Rosa also remained gathered outside the Senate compound. No formal program or demonstration was reported, although supporters continued playing music while monitoring developments inside the Senate.
The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into alleged anomalies involving flood control projects in Bulacan.
