
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur – Defending champion Vietnam opened its Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Cup campaign in commanding fashion after sweeping Lebanon, 25-3, 25-13, 25-14, on Saturday at the Candon City Arena.
Vietnam’s offense was led by Nu Anh Le, who finished with 12 points off 10 spikes and two service aces. Thi Uyen Nguyen followed with 11 points, while TTB Thuy added nine as the Vietnamese squad dominated Group B action from start to finish.
Lebanon had difficulty mounting resistance, with Shantalle Marie Demirjian leading her team with eight points.
Elsewhere in Group B, Kazakhstan defeated Hong Kong in four sets, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-13.
Kazakhstan leaned on a strong performance from Tatyana Yatskiv, who delivered 25 points from attacks, serves, and blocks combined. Yulia Fomenko added 13 points, including six blocks, while Aigul Mulkibayeva contributed six.
Hong Kong was paced by Lam Shum’s 13 points and Nga Yee Leung’s nine.
Meanwhile, host team Alas Pilipinas, led by Alyssa Valdez and Jovelyn Gonzaga, was set to clash with Uzbekistan at press time.
