MANILA, Philippines — Former Taguig City mayor Lino Cayetano has been appointed as the new general manager of People’s Television Network (PTV-4), the government’s official broadcast arm.
The Presidential Communications Office confirmed the appointment on Wednesday through Secretary Dave Gomez, noting that the network remains under its supervision.
Cayetano replaces Malou Choa-Fagar, who had been serving as PTV-4 head since August of the previous year.
Malacañang did not release further details regarding the change in leadership.
According to Gomez, Cayetano’s combined experience in media production, business, and government service is expected to strengthen the operations of the state-owned broadcaster.
He described Cayetano as someone who can help modernize PTV-4 amid a rapidly changing media landscape.
Before entering politics, Cayetano worked as a director in film and television. He later held various government posts, including barangay chairman in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, followed by a term as congressman and later as city mayor.
His most recent political bid in 2025 ended in defeat when he ran for a congressional seat in Taguig–Pateros.
Cayetano is part of a prominent political family, being the brother of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Pia Cayetano, and the son of former senator Rene Cayetano.
In recent years, he has also made public remarks distancing himself from traditional political dynasties, even as he remains closely linked to one.
Tensions within the Cayetano family have also surfaced publicly, particularly following disagreements over governance and political leadership positions.
